This test of the body's ability to adjust to rapid changes in altitude or atmospheric pressure involved being placed in a barochamber, and experiencing a sudden climb in altitude to 5000m, followed by a faster drop to sea level. The doctors watch closely for signs of hypoxia (insufficient oxygen flow to the brain) as well as pressure-related damage. I experienced some pain in my sinuses during the test, but not enough to warrant calling a halt to the program. |
