The Soyuz rocket stands 50m high, and the launch is dramatic. This photographer from Star City enjoys standing as close as 80m from the launch pad (by contrast, the closest viewing site for a shuttle launch is 8km) and says he can't hear anything for hours afterwards. But the shots are spectacular. This launchpad is the same one that launched both Sputnik and Gagarin.
